Pecorino and Pears ("Al Villan' Non Fare Sapere ...")

Pecorino and Pears ("Al Villan' Non Fare Sapere ...")

from 70.00

Acrylic on Canvas, 11’ x 14”.

This painting is a conceptual companion to my painting “Fichi con Prosciutto”. As I recounted in connection with that painting:

A Calabrese friend of mine shared with me the following, which rhymes in Italian and explains the parenthetical in the title:

In English:

A landowner once said to his companion:

“Don’t let the peasant know how good cheese tastes with pears.”

The peasant, having heard the landowner, and who always is one up on the Devil, responded:

“If you really want to know what’s good, try figs with prosciutto!”
